Dodgers’ Miguel Rojas Has Torn Adductor Muscle That Will Require Surgery

Dodgers shortstop Miguel Rojas said an MRI on his injured left adductor muscle Thursday revealed a tear that will require offseason surgery, according to Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times.

Rojas, 35, said he will attempt to play through the injury for the remainder of the Dodgers’ season after receiving a cortisone injection.

The veteran shortstop left Wednesday’s victory over the San Diego Padres after aggravating the injury running the bases. Rojas said afterward that he had been dealing with the injury for some time.

In 103 games this season, Rojas is hitting .283 with a .337 on-base percentage and a .410 slugging percentage.

Rojas was removed in the fifth inning Wednesday night after rounding third base and hitting the brakes. He stayed in the game after a brief visit with manager Dave Roberts, but was out of the game when the sixth inning began.

Tommy Edman, who moved from center field to shortstop last night after Rojas was removed, is starting at shortstop for the Dodgers in their series finale against the Padres on Thursday.

Rojas’ .787 OPS is his highest in a non-pandemic season since his 2014 debut. His 66 starts at shortstop lead the Dodgers, and he’s been the primary starter there since he returned from a forearm strain on Aug. 7.

Rojas signed a one-year, $5 million contract extension in February with a club option for 2025.

Famously, Rojas made the final three outs in the Dodgers’ last game with one swing of the bat: a rare triple play in the bottom of the ninth inning of Tuesday’s 4-2 loss to San Diego.

With Edman starting at shortstop against the Padres on Thursday, Pages is starting in center field.

In an unrelated roster move Thursday, the Dodgers activated catcher Austin Barnes from the injured list, and optioned catcher Hunter Feduccia to the minors. They also placed right-handed reliever Brusdar Graterol on the injured list with right shoulder inflammation and recalled right-handed pitcher Ben Casparius.
