Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts didn’t sound so confident in Freddie Freeman’s ability to play in Wednesday night’s Game 4 against the San Diego Padres.

When asked about Freeman’s comfort level heading into the game, he responded, “It’s just okay.”

Then, when he was asked if it was “okay enough,” he had this to say:

“Okay enough to give it a shot until it’s not,” Roberts said to reporters. “As of right now he’s in there. And he’s doing everything he can to be in there.

“So, like I said, he’s in there right now. But unless something changes as he’s getting ready, I might have to pivot. But right now he’s in there.”

Freeman is dealing with the ankle sprain he suffered in the team’s Sept. 26 win over the Padres. He was able to play a full Game 1 and Game 3, but was forced to exit Game 2 after five innings. In Game 3, he came up limping after catching a high throw at first, but stayed in the game.

As of now, he’s in the Dodgers’ lineup, playing first base and batting third.
