The Los Angeles Dodgers will likely be without their top right-handed pitcher for the entire 2025 season.

The Dodgers announced that Gavin Stone underwent right shoulder surgery on Oct. 9 and is likely to miss all of the 2025 season.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said this about Stone on Saturday.

“He had his shoulder surgery, successful,” Roberts said . “Identified a lot of stuff that was going on in the shoulder. Don’t see him coming back in ’25.”

Stone, who led the Dodgers in innings pitched with 140.1, was placed on the injured list on Sept. 6 with shoulder inflammation. The inflammation was more severe than they thought, and L.A. thought surgery was the right move for the 25-year-old.

Stone was spectacular for the Dodgers all season long. In his first full season in the major leagues, Stone recorded an 11-5 record with a 3.53 ERA, 116 strikeouts, and a 1.21 WHIP in 25 starts. He last pitched on Aug. 31 against the Arizona Diamondbacks, where he allowed five hits, five earned runs, one walk, and four strikeouts in 5.0 innings.

Stone is now one of many who are out for the Dodgers as they will play for the National League pennant. Tyler Glasnow’s season is over due to elbow tendinitis, Tony Gonsolin is still recovering from Tommy John surgery, Dustin May is still recovering from Tommy John and esophageal surgery, Emmet Sheehan missed all of the 2024 season and will likely miss most of the 2025 season due to Tommy John surgery and Rivery Ryan will most all of the 2025 season with  Tommy John surgery.

The Dodgers’ pitching staff couldn’t catch a break all season long, and that continues to be the case as the team faces the New York Mets in the National League Championship Series.

The loss of Stone is significant, but the focus will now be on the Mets. The Dodgers will send their top trade deadline acquisition, Jack Flaherty, to the hill for Game 1. L.A. will participate in its first NLCS since 2021, and it will face the Mets for the fourth time in the postseason.

The Dodgers will look to ride with who they have and make the most of it.
