Dodgers Tie MLB Postseason Record, Lose Scoreless Inning Streak in Heartbreaking Fashion

The Los Angeles Dodgers tied the 1966 Baltimore Orioles for the longest scoreless postseason streak in MLB history.

They couldn’t pass it, though.

With a Francisco Lindor solo home run in the top of the first inning of Game 2, the Dodgers’ scoreless streak ends at 33 innings pitched.

However, 33 innings is nothing to scoff at.

Pitching was supposed to be the weakness of this Los Angeles Dodgers team in the 2024 postseason.

Instead, they’ve been dominant. Historically dominant.

The streak began all the way back in Game 3 of the National League Division Series against the San Diego Padres. After the Padres had a six-run second inning thanks to some poor Dodgers defense, the Dodgers shut the Padres down for the rest of Game 3. Walker Buehler pitched the first three innings of the streak. Then, Anthony Banda pitched 1.1 innings, Daniel Hudson pitched 0.2 innings, and Michael Kopech pitched 1.0 innings.

In Game 4 of the series, the Dodgers utilized a full bullpen game, and completely shut down the Padres. Brasier, Banda, Kopech, Alex Vesia, Evan Phillips, Hudson, Blake Treinen, and Landon Knack combined to shut the Padres out across nine innings of work.

In Game 5, the Dodgers got five shutout innings from Yoshinobu Yamamoto. Then, Phillips, Vesia, Kopech, and Treinen closed things out to maintain the shutout, the scoreless streak, and send the Dodgers to the NLCS.

The Dodgers entered Game 1 of the NLCS with a 24 consecutive scoreless innings streak. They gave the ball to Jack Flaherty in Game 1, and he was lights out, giving the Dodgers one of their best NLCS starts in franchise history, going seven shutout innings, allowing two hits and two walks while striking out six. Hudson pitched a scoreless eighth inning, and rookie Ben Casparius pitched a scoreless ninth inning.

The 2024 Dodgers couldn’t break the record, but they’ll still go down as one of the most dominant pitching staffs in postseason history for their work in the NLDS and NLCS.
