Shohei Ohtani Has Hilarious Reaction to Angry Outburst in Dodgers Dugout

Shohei Ohtani hasn’t showed many emotions this season besides joy, but during the National League Division Series against the San Diego Padres, fan got a quick look at anger after a weird play in the top of the fourth inning.

Ohtani worked a walk and was looking to add to the Dodgers five-run lead when Teoscar Hernandez grounded a two-strike pitch down the third base line.

The designated hitter saw the ball get past Padres third baseman Manny Machado and hit the bag in stride eager to score. He didn’t look up to see third base coach Dino Ebel’s stop sign.

It typically would have been an easy trot home for Ohtani except this time, the ball bounced off Machado’s glove and then ricocheted off third base umpire Mark Ripperger. Machado was able to work around Ripperger to make a play on the ball and promptly threw out Ohtani as he was attempting to score.

Ohtani didn’t have a chance, he was out by a few body lengths.

As soon as the superstar returned to the dugout, he grabbed a tablet to watch the replay and was visibly upset. He screamed in Ripperger’s direction which caused all heads to turn toward Ohtani in the dugout.

Reporters asked Ohtani after the game about his emotion moment and he naturally laughed it off.

Here was the question: “On the emotional point, with that play where the ball hit the umpire yesterday, just how frustrating was that? And when you watched it back in the dugout were you upset with the umpire directly or just the way the entire play unfolded?”

Ohtani responded, “I totally forgot about it.” His response garnered a ton of laughs.

Fortunately, the play didn’t affect the outcome as the Dodgers went on to win the game, 8-0.

The Dodgers also went on to win the series 3-2 and are now in the middle of a seven-game series against the New York Mets.

Heading into Wednesday night, the series is tied 1-1 with the Dodgers sending Walker Buehler to the mound against New York’s Luis Severino. Ohtani will hope for only joyous emotions for the remainder of this postseason.
