The Los Angeles Dodgers are coming off yet another incredible campaign. L.A. won the National League West for the 11th time in 12 years and are one win away from their fourth World Series appears in the last eight years.

The Dodgers have been the gold standard for baseball in the last handful of seasons, and a big part of that is because of nine-year manager Dave Roberts . Like him or not, you cannot deny the positive impact he has made on the clubhouse and beyond.

Roberts is a class act, and not only do the Dodgers know it but so do other managers in the league, like Pittsburgh Pirates manager Derek Shelton.

Shelton appeared on MLB Network Radio and praised Roberts for his managerial abilities and for leading this team through the playoffs thus far.

“I think Dave Roberts does a very good job of saying very even-keeled and every calculated on how he needs to do things” Shelton said. “The situation with Manny [Machado] and like yeah, anytime you could motivate, that was a highly intense series that was played in two ballparks that were getting after each other. Any time you could provide something that has motivation to your group and be able to use it, and I thought he did it in a really good way. The one we know from watching Doc manager for over all these years is when you see that intensity, there’s a purpose behind it, and that’s what good managers do, they use that when they need to.”

Roberts is one of the longest-tenured managers in the league, and he’s repeatedly shown why he is arguably the best.

Managers like Roberts, especially in the city he represents, never get the credit they deserve and are always blamed for things, even if they aren’t at fault. That’s the nature of the job, especially for the Dodgers, who have such high expectations year in and year out.

Nonetheless, Roberts is happy to be a part of this organization he once played for and will look to take his team back to glory. It’s not easy, yet he and his team make it look easy more often than not.
