POLICE: Shelter in place order remains in Amherst standoff
Police from multiple agencies are working together Friday to take an armed fugitive into custody, while a shelter in place order remains active for residents in Amherst. Jeffery E. Miller, 32, is wanted on charges of attempted homicide of a law enforcement officer. Miller, of Sauk County, was located at about 6:30 p.m. Thursday, July 25 at 450 Mill Ave. in the village of Amherst. Five people were apprehended by members of a tactical team but Miller retreated into the home and fired shots at police officers, according to a news release from Portage County Sheriff Mike Lukas.

Board OKs membership with School District Consortium
The Verona Area School District (VASD) Board of Education voted to join the Greater Dane County School District Consortium (GDCSDC) on Monday, July 22. Board members Jennifer Murphy, John Porco and Superintendent Tremayne Clardy attended a GDCSDC meeting in May, where a group of greater Dane County school districts are looking to collaborate on shared visions. Casey Rabach Named Badgers Assistant Coach
Sturgeon Bay native and former college and pro football offensive lineman Casey Rabach has been named an assistant offensive line coach at the University of Wisconsin. Rabach joined the Badgers’ staff as a personnel assistant in 2022 before moving into the director of scouting role in the spring of 2023 and playing a key role in Wisconsin’s recruiting efforts.
