Amy Adams’ perfect rendition of canine instincts reportedly scared the dog crew on the set of “Nightbitch.” Adapted from Rachel Yoder’s popular novel of the same name, the upcoming horror comedy portrays the 50-year-old actor as a mother who takes a break from her artistic career to focus on her kid. But soon, things take a harrowing turn when she starts showing dog-like mannerisms.

Director Marielle Heller, along with Amy Adams and Scoot McNairy, attended the Toronto International Film Festival for the film’s world premiere. In a conversation with Entertainment Weekly , Heller recalls the intense atmosphere on the set, all thanks to Adams’ method acting. Reportedly the dogs “freaked out” as they confused Amy’s behavior for stalking.

Heller spotlights one particular incident that “almost ruined the whole shoot.” One of the scenes called for the dogs to flock around Amy while she walks down the staircase. The dog trainers present on the set edified them thoroughly. However, Amy’s eyes reportedly made her canine companions uncomfortable, and they started to lunge at her.

Amy also recounts freaking out her canine co-stars. While others eventually calmed down, one of them had to take the rest of the day off to get back to its usual self. “…he did not trust me after that,” Amy chimes in.

Apart from some bitter experiences, the crew also shared sweet moments with the four-legged stars of the film. They were looking for a red-haired husky to depict Amy’s canine avatar. When they could not find one, they adopted one from a shelter and trained it for months. As Heller says, “She was just the most gorgeous, incredible dog.”

“Nightbitch” carefully deals with female rage and the psychological alterations one goes through after becoming a mother. Apart from Amy Adams, the December 2024 release also features Scoot McNairy, Ella Thomas, and Jessica Harper in pivotal roles.
