More Recipes From My Grandma's Recipe Binder
I haven’t tried many recipes from my grandma’s recipe binder because I didn’t know how to make them. However, since I found them when I moved back home to the countryside, I have many recipes of foods I’ve tried as a youth at my fingertips. Here is one of them.
Do You Tip at Restaurants
I ordered takeout today at a restaurant I sometimes dine in, but I ordered meals to take out this time. I paid for my meal at the front counter and debated to tip. However, when I saw the bill for four meals, the bill totaled close to $70. Today, I rounded my bill to the nearest dollar and told the food server to keep the change.
Here Is a Meal That Anyone Can Make
Here is one of my favorite Filipino foods. Again, this is from my grandma’s recipe box. I already knew how to make the meal but wanted to show the original Filipino dish. Over the years, I left off the vinegar or would add a little vinegar. Here is the pork or chicken adobo recipe.
Homemade Chicken Cutlet; It's Quick and Easy
Since moving back home to country living, I’ve been cooking more. Tonight, I decided to make a chicken cutlet meal. I made it from the many versions I’ve made it. However, I didn’t have some of the ingredients in the kitchen, so I made the chicken cutlet with what I had in the kitchen. Here is my version of the chicken cutlet.
In Search of a Good Cheeseburger
I had nothing to do today, so I searched for a good cheeseburger on The Garden Island. It's been over a month since I settled into my new job. I used to be able to search for many eateries on Oahu and write about my experiences, but I was only able to do a little to find restaurants and eateries on the island. I took some family members to the south shore and came across Bubba Burger in Poipu. I ordered a double Bubba burger with cheese and everything on it.
Eateries and the Best of Country Living
It's been a month since I returned to Kauai. I haven't gotten adjusted yet to the slower pace of life. At my condo in Honolulu, I could drive 5 minutes away and drive through to a 24-hour Mcdonald's Restaurant. I can't do that here on Kauai. Many things have changed, but some have remained the same.
Farmers' Markets and Independent Vendors Are Everywhere
It's been almost a month since I returned home on Garden Island. Since returning, I've noticed many things I took for granted while living in Honolulu. I used to see Farmers' Markets around Oahu but was not a frequent shopper because there were more choices. However, since I've been back on Kauai, I've noticed the many Farmers' Markets around the island.
Huli Huli Chicken at Happy Eats
I passed the mom-and-pop weekend eatery every time I visited home but never ate there. However, this time, since I'm here for the time being, I finally went to Happy Eats. A pop-up tent, barbecue grill, and counter in the parking lot on Rice Street serve Huli Huli Chicken every weekend. I ordered three pieces of a quarter of the Huli Huli Chicken. It was like the many Huli Huli Chicken I ate growing up.
Go to Hamura's Saimin for Good Saimin
I used to go to Hamura's Saimin every time as a youth. On occasion, I would visit Hamura's on my many visit home. Now that my job transfer has taken me to Kauai for the time being, I meant to visit the saimin eatery since I arrived in Kauai, but I never had the time to visit.
Zippy's to Open on the 9th Island
I received an update on Zippy's news in my email, and it was good to see Zippy's Restaurant in Las Vegas will be open for business on October 10, 2023. After many years of delay due to the pandemic, I was happy they pushed forward with their restaurant in Las Vegas. However, I knew Zippy's didn't have a restaurant on Kauai, so I would have to travel to Honolulu for their Chili and Chicken mix plate. I often travel back and forth to Honolulu, so that's not a problem.
