Let the School Build the Stadium
NCAA FBS stadium seating requirements for all home football games require an average of 15,000 attendance or paid tickets for all home games. The University of Hawaii will finally meet that requirement by expanding the seating capacity at the Clearance T.C. Ching Athletic Complex to 17,000 seats. The increase in seating capacity will be enough to meet the minimum NCAA requirements if every home game is close to a sell-out.
Visit This Store for Delicious Food
Foodland Farms is a store I visit once in a while. There is parking, but you need to walk some because the store is in the Ala Moana Shopping Center. That is the only store I visit at the shopping center because of their variety of foods made ready to go. You can choose from many bentos and foods at the eatery counter. I usually buy Garlic Chicken Bento because it’s delicious and the perfect size for a meal. It’s not too expensive, and it fills me up.
The Timing Couldn't Have Been More Perfect
I didn't realize the many government projects in progress until I discovered the city website. I applaud government leaders for maintaining the roads and structures throughout the city and state. With the recent opening of the first part of the rail, the long overdue rail is finally operational. Even though the skyline is taking people from Kapolei to the Aloha Stadium, it is finally operational.
I Will Take the Bowl to Go
I haven’t gone to Chun Wah Kam restaurant in a while and wanted to have their chow mein and roast pork bowl, so I went on a Saturday afternoon to the location close to the Ala Moana Shopping Center. When I arrived at about 1:30 pm, a few were in line, but the line was long when I left.
Where Can You Find Good Grilled Steak
I’ve been looking for eateries that serve delicious steak. Times supermarket serves delicious plate lunches with a variety on their menu. I’ve eaten their grilled steak plates, and their steaks were always tasty. However, I wanted to find another place around that price range that served grilled steak. I knew I didn’t want to go to dine-in restaurants because a grilled steak plate would cost between $20 - $30.
Visit This Drive Inn for Island Favorites
Many who drive through Dillingham Blvd know that rail construction has already started. Some of the restaurants and businesses are affected by the many detours along the way. On the 4th of July, I stopped at Waiakamilo Shopping Center to buy a plate lunch at Waiakamilo Drive Inn. I’ve been to several restaurants around the area but have never been to Waiakamilo Drive Inn.
More Funding Approved for City Projects
The City and County of Honolulu plan to build a bridge across the Ala Wai Canal. And, as planned, according to Hawaii News Now, the Federal Government approved $25 million to build a bridge across the Ala Wai Canal. This project was years in the planning. You will notice their current projects if you visit the City and County of Honolulu website.
Affordable Housing Will Replace Two Favorite Stores
Don Quijote and Times Supermarket in Waipahu will close to make room for affordable housing. It sounds like a nice idea to have affordable housing in the area, but will it be affordable at the end of the project? Also, will other grocery stores replace the two grocery stores?
Visit This Burger Joint in Town Today
I didn’t know much about Chubbies Burgers until I came across the restaurant by taking a side road off 12th Avenue and looking for another restaurant in the area. According to their website, their restaurant started as a food truck in 2016. They now have a restaurant in Kaimuki and looking to add another restaurant in Kaka’ako in 2023.
There Is a New Restaurant in Town
There is a new restaurant in town on Kapahulu Blvd. Honu Kalbi and Sushi is a welcomed addition to the many restaurants in the area. I went to check out the restaurant today for lunch and noticed I had arrived at the right time; no one was there. The restaurant was clean, and there was ample parking. They serve Korean BBQ and a variety of sushi items on the menu. I decided to have the Honu special, which consisted of Kalbi and Meat Jun with their in-house vegetables, fried mandu, and a macaroni salad.
Who Makes the Best Fried Saimin
What is fried saimin? It’s saimin without the soup; fry the cooked noodles and other ingredients in a pan or wok. Fried saimin is easy to make. Here are the ingredients. Cook the noodles or get precooked noodles and set them aside before cooking the other ingredients in a pan with cooking oil. Cut the spam, carrots, green onions, and cooked scrambled eggs into thin slices. Next, fry the ingredients in the pan. Finally, add the fried noodles, shoyu, and salt to your liking. Fry the noodles and ingredients until it is mixed, and serve.
Support Your Local Mom and Pop Eateries
I haven't gone to some eateries for a long time. One takeout restaurant that I last visited a while ago is Diners in Kalihi. I noticed the sign change of the takeout restaurant several years ago but paid no attention to it because they served good local comfort food. However, after visiting their website, I knew the company, Diners, now called Diners by Upscale Hawaii, either merged or purchased the original Diners takeout restaurant.
Name Your Favorite Meal With Spam
Spam is an island favorite for any meal of the day. You can prepare meals using spam with about any other ingredients. According to SPAM, sales of seven million cans of spam are the result of people in Hawaii purchasing spam. There are 48 countries where spam is sold and enjoyed.
Who Makes the Best Fried Chicken
I finally went to Jollibee to try their original fried chicken. I knew only one Jollibee in the area, so I visited the Kalihi fast food restaurant. I ordered the 3-piece combo with a side of mashed potato and a regular diet Pepsi. I’ve eaten at Popeyes, Kentucky Fried Chicken, and now Jollibee. I like other places that serve fried chicken in the area, but I wanted to compare fast food restaurants with a global reach.
Visit This Store for Good Filipino Food
I remember going to North Star Sausage eatery and store while in college. It's been a few years since I've been to the N. King Street location, but I've checked on Yelp the reviews are recent. That means they are probably still open for business. So, I stopped by their store/eatery today to purchase bagnet (chicharon). I remember the lady working there several years ago, and I was not surprised by the variety of Filipino food. I went late in the afternoon, so most of the food was gone. But a few bagnet (chicharon) were left, so I purchased some. They cut it into pieces, so I didn't have to do it at home.
Mac Salad With Two Scoops of Rice
If you go to many local eateries, you’ll find the meals have a portion of meat, two scoops of rice, and macaroni salad. Many food trucks serve their plate lunches with a meat portion, two rice scoops, and a macaroni salad scoop. The macaroni salad is almost the same at eateries and food trucks, with minor variations in their ingredients.
This Fast Food Makes Good Fried Chicken
Many restaurants serve good fried chicken, but only some fast food restaurants with drive-throughs serve good fried chicken. Sometimes I prefer to drive through a drive through restaurant and pick up my food and eat on the run. I've tried several places, such as Kentucky Fried Chicken, but the best fried chicken I can get at a drive-through is Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen. I was surprised to find out that there were only several locations on the island and only one on the neighboring island. There is no Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen at the neighbor island I'll be moving to in several weeks. Here are the locations in Hawaii.
What Restaurant Serves the Best Loco Moco
I searched online to find out the origins of the loco moco meal. Almost all say the origins started in a restaurant in Hilo on the Big Island of Hawaii in 1949; what is the loco moco meal? It’s rice served with hamburger patties on top of it with eggs sunny side up with gravy poured all over it.
Visit the Iron Grill Food Truck for Awesome Comfort Food
I've spent the past few weeks driving around the island, searching for restaurants and food trucks to try their food. I noticed a food truck within several hundred feet in front of the entrance to my apartment building. I didn't have to go far today to find a place to eat and write about it. I'm not sure how long the food truck was there, but I've owned my condo apartment for twenty years and ordered food from a food truck there when I first moved in.
