Fireworks Fatal Incident, July 4th Death
Such incidents involving fireworks are quite common in Illinois. In the previous year, as per the Illinois State Fire Marshal’s office, there were 108 injuries due to fireworks mishaps. The victims included a suburban man almost dying because he looked into an inactive firework tube and another man in his early thirties who died near Rockford while igniting fireworks. A young suburban man lost an eye and sustained severe facial injuries due to firework accidents. Also, in 2017, a man from Chicago died while putting together a July Fourth children’s firework show.
Ravens Pound Panther Pitching, Sweep Season Series From Pekin
Ahead of a round of stormy weather battering southeast Iowa Tuesday, the Hillcrest Academy Raven softball team used their bats to do the same to Pekin pitching in a 13-9 win over the Panthers in Kalona. The two squads rode the see-saw through the first two innings with Pekin jumping up 3-0 after their first at-bat and the Ravens answering with five in the bottom half. The Panthers countered with three again in the top of two to lead 6-5 before Hillcrest put a handful more on the board to take the lead back at 10-6. Three more Raven runs in the third extended the lead to 13-6 and while Pekin would close to 13-9 after the fourth inning, it wasn’t enough to complete the comeback in the weather shortened affair.

Body Found in Illinois River Saturday Morning
Peoria County, IL – A body was found in the Illinois River on Saturday, July 6th, 2024, prompting a multi-agency investigation. The Peoria County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call at approximately 9:32 a.m. after a fisherman discovered the body behind Liberty Steel at 7000 S. Adam St., Bartonville. The body was located approximately 300 yards southwest of the Shade-Lohmann Bridge near the Peoria Lock and Dam, caught on the dam.
