Hibma Tells Us About Unity Meal, Mobile Food Pantry
Sheldon, Iowa — The Sheldon Area Unity Meal has been going on for several years. Barb Hibma, with Honor God Ministries, is one of the people who set it up, and we had a chance to visit with her on our KIWA-FM Talk of the Town program on Friday morning, which can be heard every weekday morning at 8:30.

The Le Mars Street Department says repaving of Plymouth Street should be completed today and will be open to traffic by Monday. Street Supervisor Scott Kneip was informed by the Iowa Department of Transportation says that the concrete that was poured around the manholes in the street must cure before traffic can ride on it. Recent rain delayed painting lines on the street. That work would be completed by today if needed.
Carroll County Conservation Holding Second Pella Summer Concert This Saturday Featuring Bluegrass Band: Alleygrass
Carroll County Conservation invites everyone to the second Pella Summer Concert Series event this Saturday. Bring a lawn chair or blanket to the Swan Lake Campground Amphitheater to listen to Alleygrass, a bluegrass band, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at no cost. Food and drinks can be brought from home, or let Pim’s Thia Food Truck cook for you, with food available an hour before the music starts at 5:00 p.m. All ages are welcome to listen to the music, and the Carroll Public Library will bring another Storywalk for kids to enjoy. Again, Alleygrass will be featured for the next free Pella Summer Concert Series this Saturday at Swan Lake State Park from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Sheldon, Northwestern grad wins CPA award
Four hundred hours equals more than 16 full 24-hour days. It’s the amount of time that Hannah Van Meeteren, a graduate of Sheldon High School and Northwestern College in Orange City, spent studying for her certified public accountant exam, a four-part assessment required of accounting majors to receive their CPA license.
Wall Lake Fire And Rescue Department Recipient Of FEMA’S Assistance To Firefighters Grant
The Wall Lake Fire and Rescue Department has been awarded a Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) grant to purchase new sets of bunker gear. The Assistance to Firefighters Grant assists fire departments and other non-affiliated emergency medical services in buying crucial equipment, protective gear, and vehicles and provides training and other resources to continue to protect and serve communities. A total of 929 awards were granted throughout the country, totaling $152 million. The Wall Lake Fire Department was given $38,857 to purchase 12 new sets of protective gear. Region XII Council of Governments assisted the department in the grant-writing process. Wall Lake Fire and Rescue was one of 14 organizations in Iowa that were accepted for funding. A complete list of awardees throughout the state is included below.
