Searchers recover bodies of children, father still missing after sailboat capsizes on Green Bay
GREEN BAY — Authorities say they have recovered the bodies of two children, but their father remains missing, two days after their sailboat was last seen near Door County. According to Brown County Emergency Management, 32-year-old Bill Salnick was last seen at 5 p.m. Saturday at Green Island near Egg Harbor with his two children, ages 5 and 3 on their sailboat. He said he was headed back to Oconto.

OCONTO COUNTY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The bodies of two young children were found after their sailboat was found capsized in the waters of Door County. A search began over the weekend for the two children, ages 3 and 5, and their father, 32-year-old Bill Salnik of Little Suamico, after they went sailing Saturday.

Yvonne W. Simon
Yvonne W. Simon, 96, of Door County and Green Bay, passed away Thursday, July 11 after a lengthy illness. Yvonne was born June 6, 1928 to Edmund and Lillian Krueger in Carlsville, where she grew up on the family farm. On December 28, 1947 she married Philipp R. Simon of Institute. She is survived by their four children, Philipp W. (Sandra Larson), James, Charles (Victoria), and Michelle, her sister Jeanette (Eugene) Gendron, seven grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her brothers Leland (Eunice) and Carl (Betty), her sister Frieda (John) Polich, and her granddaughter Nikki. Yvonne enjoyed many years working as an interior decorator and had a number of artistic hobbies throughout her life. She was an excellent cook and she especially loved working in her flower and vegetable gardens. Visitation will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home, 340 S. Monroe Ave, Green Bay on July 20th from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. with a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. To share a memory of Yvonne or leave a special message for her family, please visit the guestbook below.
Hundreds compete in Door County Triathlon
Athletes from all walks of life and ages converged on Egg Harbor this weekend for the Door County Triathlon series. Over 1,500 participants and 110 teams took part in the Half Iron, Sprint, and Kid triathlon events. Participants as young as six years, and some pushing 80 years old, took on the challenge of stacking swimming, cycling, and running events on one of the warmest summer weekends for Door County. In Sunday’s Half Iron event (1.2m swim, 56m bike, 13.1m run), Patrick Brady of Waunakee won the men’s race with a time of 4:02 while Nicole Heininger of Madison captured the women’s title with a time of 4:34.
