Rapterra, the world’s ‘tallest and longest’ wing roller coaster, will open at Kings Dominion Kings Dominion Amusement Park, Doswell, VA
At 145 feet tall and 3,086 feet long, Rapterra is the world’s tallest and longest wing coaster.
The ride, based on the Jungle Hawk, launches as part of the park’s 50th anniversary celebration.
The attraction is named after the story of an ancient shrine that was made in honor of the hawk.
Built at the base of the volcano Mt. Inferna, the shrine was eventually destroyed when a magma chamber collapsed.
According to the theme park’s website, archaeologists who recently uncovered the volcanic site discovered the remains of the Jungle Hawk shrine.
The ride mimics the sensation of taking flight, and passengers may be shocked by its instant acceleration.
Rapterra accelerates riders up to 65 miles an hour in just four seconds, taking them from zero to superhero speeds.
The rapid change in speed is meant to mimic “a Jungle Hawk when it mounts an attack on its prey.”
What’s more, travelers can expect exhilarating drops as the car takes them over the coaster’s peak through dive loops, S-turns, hills, and even a 360-degree raptor roll.
The ride of a lifetime lasts for just 89 seconds and flips riders upside down three times.
“We are excited to unveil Rapterra, the must-do ride of 2025, at Kings Dominion,” said Bridgette Bywater, vice president and general manager of Kings Dominion.
“This extraordinary addition promises new thrills for our guests, making it the perfect centerpiece for our 50th-anniversary celebration.
“[It reaffirms] why Kings Dominion is the ultimate destination for unforgettable memories and exhilarating excitement.”
Construction of the ride is already underway and is expected to wrap up in the fall.
