Man chokes, sexually assaults relative in latest attack
Douglas County deputies arrested a Winston man Thursday after he choked and sexually assaulted a relative after breaking into the victim’s home. Cassius Mikedel Bering, Jr., 25, has been charged with aggravated sexual battery, aggravated assault — strangulation, criminal attempt to commit a felony — rape, battery, aggravated stalking, burglary and three counts of violating probation. He remains in jail without bond. The Douglas County Sentinel does not identify victims of sexual crimes.
Hearing canceled for ex-Douglas County judge arrested at Buckhead nightclub
ATLANTA - Former Douglas County Judge Christina Peterson was supposed to appear before a judge on Friday morning for a hearing related to her arrest at a Buckhead nightclub. However, FOX 5 Atlanta has learned the hearing was canceled. At this time, it is not known when the hearing will be rescheduled.

A Douglas County man has been charged with sexual battery for allegedly touching a woman inappropriately at a local store. Dontavious Smith, 25, was arrested Friday, July 5. The incident happened around 5 p.m. on July 3 at the Walmart at 7001 Concourse Parkway.
