Bennington woman pleads ‘no contest’ in fatal drunk driving crash
WAHOO, Neb. (WOWT) - A Bennington woman accused of killing a man in a drunk driving crash last year entered a plea agreement Monday. Madisyn Haack, 23, pleaded “no contest” in Saunders County Court to one count of motor vehicle homicide-DUI. The three other charges she was initially facing — manslaughter, DUI, and willful reckless driving — were dropped as part of the plea deal.

New Costco location set to open this week in Omaha
OMAHA, Neb. — The wait is almost over for Costco fans. The new location at 180th Street and West Maple Road is opening July 12. They are currently training new employees. The metro area currently has two Costco locations: near 120th and Dodge streets in Omaha and near S 125th Street and W Giles Road in La Vista.

The August IHE 3rd Thursday Lunch & Learn program will be on Thursday, Aug. 15 at 11:30 a.m. on ZOOM. Though Cyd Gottlieb never personally met her Holocaust Survivor grandparents, as a child, she gained a deep understanding of their respective journeys through various ghettos, concentration camps, displaced persons camps, and countries from a box of documents kept on the top shelf of a closet. Inside, she found authentic primary documents of different paper types, fonts, chronological stamps, seals, and languages. By following patterns and details, she figured out how to understand what words could not describe.

OMAHA, Neb. — CHI Health said its hospitals in Omaha and Lincoln treated more than 70 people for fireworks injuries over the Fourth of July holiday weekend. Almost 40 of those injuries were in the metro, another 13 were in Lincoln and the St. Elizabeth Burn Outpatient Center saw about 20 visits.
Man accused of attempting to break into Omaha home using machete
OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - A man is behind bars Monday after being accused of trying to break into a northwest Omaha home with a machete. Sajin Gurung, 21, was arrested and booked into Douglas County Corrections on one count of terroristic threats, one count use of a weapon to commit a felony, and one count of criminal mischief.

Nebraska Countdown to Kickoff: No. 54 Bryce Benhart
Only 54 days remain until the beginning of the Nebraska Cornhuskers’ 2024 season, and as the countdown continues, 6-foot-9, 315-pound offensive lineman Bryce Benhart is in the spotlight. The Lakeville, Minnesota native is entering his sixth season with the Huskers after signing with the Huskers as part of their 2019 recruiting class and was a consensus four-star recruit across the recruiting industry. Coming out of Lakeville North High School, he was also an Army All-American in 2019. Through his first five seasons with the program, Benhart has become an anchor of the Husker’s offensive line, starting in 41 games over his career at right tackle, a program record. His 2023 season was his best as a Husker, and he earned All-Big Ten honorable mention honors from both the coaches and media. He has also been a consistent Academic All-Big selection throughout his career. In 2024, Benhart will be expected to be once again a stalwart member of the Huskers’ offensive line, which hopes to improve from 2023.
