Lando Norris cruised to an impressive victory at Zandvoort despite giving up the lead to Max Verstappen at the opening of the Dutch Grand Prix.

Norris took a commanding 20-second victory over Max Verstappen at the Dutchman’s home grand prix, the second of his F1 career. Norris passed Verstappen on lap 18 and never looked back.

It is McLaren’s first Dutch Grand Prix victory since Niki Lauda in 1985, the legendary driver’s last F1 victory.

Verstappen took the lead off the line at Zandvoort, but with superior pace, the Briton reasserted himself at the head of the field before the first round of pit stops.

After that phase, the McLaren eased away from the Red Bull driver, powerless to prevent his winless streak from extending to five Grand Prix events. It is also the first time the three-time champion did not win the Dutch Grand Prix.

McLaren had things go their way at Zandvoort. After running long, Oscar Piastri finished fourth on a sub-optimal strategy. The Australian struggled to move back past the Ferrari of Charles Leclerc, who took an impressive third place to round out the podium. There were no yellow flags during the race, with all 20 cars finishing.

Norris is currently 70 points behind Verstappen in the World Driver’s Championship after the 15th of 24 races. McLaren is inching closer in the Constructor’s standings, continuing to chip away at Red Bull, which has a 30-point lead to date.
