DOVER — A 32-year-old Dover man was arrested on drug and firearm charges following a shots fired complaint early Wednesday morning, authorities said.

Dover Police said investigation began at 4:04 a.m., when officers were called to the unit block of South New Street for the report of shots fired. Officers reviewed downtown surveillance and observed a suspect in the area holding a firearm, police said.

Officers responded to the area and took the suspect, identified as Agmere Matthews, into custody without incident.

Police said 23 grams of crack cocaine were located, and an undisclosed amount of money on Mr. Matthews when he was taken into custody.

Officers also located a Walther .38 caliber firearm after canvassing the area that Mr. Matthews had come from prior to being taken into custody, police said.

Mr. Matthews was charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance in a Tier 2 quantity, and possession of a firearm by a person prohibited. He was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on $55,000 secured bail.
