    'A Day in Their Boots' hits ground running Thursday in Dover

    DOVER — The fifth annual “A Day in Their Boots,” which allows kids to learn about first responder careers, is set for Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Delaware State Fire School, 1461 Chestnut Grove Road.

    The free program is spearheaded by the school, as well as the Dover Police Department’s Police Athletic League. It will feature several other organizations, as well.

    It is meant to teach children ages 5-18. In the past, participants have viewed K-9 demonstrations and SWAT exercises, and put out fires with hoses.

    Though the event filled two days after registration began, coordinator Cpl. Anthony Smith said organizers will not turn any kids away on the day of.
