Red Foxes’ Early Second Half Push Falls Short in 2-1 Loss To Navy
Despite a resurgence on the offensive side of the ball, Marist let in two first half goals that they couldn’t battle back from, losing 2-1 against Navy. The Red Foxes started the game with some good offensive push and had control for the first five minutes. They found their first corner of the game where defender/midfielder, Sophia Dorsey, missed a shot wide left.
Women’s Cross Country Wins First Meet of the Season
Marist women’s cross country came charging out at their opening home meet of the season, placing first out of the five teams in the Marist Invitational at Vassar Farms. The top five Marist placeholders combined for 37 points. UConn finished second in the meet with 42 points, while UAlbany rounded out the top three with 72 points. Fairfield placed fourth with 80 points, while Siena finished last with 124 points among their top-five.
Women’s Cross Country Begins Season at Marist Season Opener
The UConn women's cross country team kicks off their 2024 season at the Marist Season Opener in Poughkeepsie, New York, set for Saturday. The team previously finished fourth in the BIG EAST championships and achieved sixth place at the NCAA regionals last season. Senior Chloe Thomas, a standout runner, finished seventh in both the BIG EAST and NCAA regionals, earning All-Region honors alongside teammates Jenna Zydanowicz and Caroline Towle. The Huskies secured impressive team results last year, including victories at the Suffolk Short Course Classic and a second-place finish at the Providence Friar Cross Country Invite. Director Beth Sullivan expressed excitement for the season's potential following successful preseason training.

Final trek for treasure hunters: Brimfield Antique Market readies for September run
Michael and Donna Grew of Poughkeepsie, New York, will be making their last trek of the year to the Brimfield Antique & Flea Market, which opens on Sept. 3 for six days. It is the last of three runs for what is considered “America’s oldest outdoor antiques flea market,” which begins each year in May followed by shows in July and September. The market is actually comprised of about 20 individually-owned fields spread along a mile-long stretch covering 150 acres of land along Route 20 in Brimfield.

City Releases RFP to Redesign Park Avenue Between East 46th Street and East 57th Street, as Greener, Safer, More Welcoming Corridor. New York City Mayor Eric Adams and New York City Department of Transportation (DOT) Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez have announced a major step to put the park back in Park Avenue between East 46th Street and East 57th Street by adding greenery, public seating, concessions, and safer crossings for pedestrians. The city released an RFP today to help develop a cohesive design vision for that portion of Park Avenue, which sits atop the Grand Central Terminal Train Shed — currently undergoing a major capital rehabilitation by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA)’s Metro-North Railroad. This effort comes as the city continues to advance its vision to permanently reimagine Fifth Avenue as a safer, less congested, pedestrian-centered boulevard, as well as other public realm projects in commercial corridors across the city.
