DOVER – Temperatures soared into the mid-90s for the annual Tuscarawas River Canoe and Kayak Race , Saturday morning, with racers coming into town from around the state and as far as West Virginia.

Nate Jones, a 24-year-old kayaker from Youngstown, arrived with his grandfather's hand-made wooden kayak to paddle. And Kevin Morgan, from Montville, in Geauga County, was competing this year in a 2-man canoe with his grandson, Milo.

The event was once again organized by Mary Jo Monte-Kaser, current president of the Ohio Division of the United States Canoe Association, and sponsored this year by the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District.

During the pre-race boater meeting, Kaser said that paddling would be easy as the flow rate was hovering around 1.645 gallons per minute and, that the "paddle upstream is about the same as the paddle downstream."
