    A preview to high school football season

    DOVER − The second annual Tuscarawas County high school football preview night will be held Aug. 6 at the Tuscarawas County Senior Center, and will include a meal and a preview of the upcoming football season. Head football coaches from all nine Tuscarawas County schools will have the chance to share insight on their teams, their impact players, and the upcoming season.

    Doors will open at 5 p.m., the meal will begin at 5:30 p.m. and the program at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at the Dover Public Library or online at www.doverlibrary.org .     Cholesterol screening Friday

    DOVER – Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital staff will offer a cholesterol screening from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday at the Dover Library. The 5-minute creening is for total cholesterol, good (HDL) and bad (LDL) cholesterol, as well as triglycerides and blood sugar. Most accurate results are achieved after a 12-hour fast.     Church yard sale to fund mission trips

    DOVER – The Dover First Christian Church Mission Committee will hold a yard sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday. All items will be sold for a donation. Proceeds from the event will be used to help fund mission trips.

    Donate supplies for preschoolers

    NEW PHILADELPHIA – The United Way of Tuscarawas County will partner with HARCATUS Head Start to Stuff the Bus during the Ohio Tax Free weekend from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday, at Walmart. Volunteers will be stationed at each entrance with a list of items needed along with collection boxes. The boxes will then be delivered to the school bus parked in the lot. Items collected will be inventoried and later distributed to Head Start classes throughout Tuscarawas County.

    Collection boxes are also located at Parkway Auto Group dealerships, Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital Outpatient Pharmacy, City of Dover building, McInturf Realty in New Philadelphia, Twin City Medical Center in Dennison and First Federal Community Bank locations.

    The list of items for students and classrooms is unique to the 3- to 5-year-old age groups. A few of the higher-demand items include Pull Ups, Crayons (regular/large), socks/underwear, tissues, glue and washable markers. A full list of items needed is at www.tuscunitedway.org/events.

    Scio Scramble 5K Run/Walk is Aug. 7

    SCIO − The 39th annual Scio Scramble 5K Run/Walk and Kids 1-Mile Fun Run will be held during the Scio Summer Fest on Aug. 7. The Kids Fun Run will be at 6:15 p.m., the 5K Walk at 6:45 p.m., and 5K Run at 7 p.m.

    Registration and awards will be at the Scio Fire Department. Bathrooms and showers available. The flat out-and-back course utilizes city streets and the Conotton Creek Trail. To register visit runsignup.com .

    ProVia to purchase property in Dalton

    SUGARCREEK – ProVia plans to purchase two Dalton, Ohio, real estate properties from Toop and Toop II, LLC, according to a news release. One contains 303,000 square feet of retail and manufacturing space. The other is a 4-acre property and contains a 22,500-square-foot warehouse.

    ProVia plans to utilize these properties for manufacturing as part of ongoing facilities expansion efforts in alignment with the company’s growth. The main building will be renovated as necessary to prepare for future production needs.

    Vacation Bible school set

    UHRICHSVILLE − Vacation Bible school will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday for children up to age 16 at Newport Global Methodist Church. Children younger than 5 must be accompanied by an adult. Register on the church's Facebook page by Wednesday.

    Miss Clayland applications available

    UHRICHSVILLE − Applications are available for the Miss Clayland Scholarship competition to be held Sept. 14 at Claymont High School. The application deadline is Sept. 1.

    Contestants will compete in five phases − private interview, evening wear, on stage question, talent and fitness. Scholarships totaling more than $5,000 will be awarded, and the winner will compete at the Miss Ohio in June. Contestants must be between the ages of 18 and 28.

    Zoar hymnal presentation

    ZOAR − The Rev. Daniel Grimminger will present an in-depth examination of the Zoar hymnal in Historic Zoar Village’s Schoolhouse at 11 a.m. Saturday. Grimminger preaches at the Zoar United Church of Christ and is an authority in German-American culture and music, hymnody, and the history and practice of sacred music and the liturgy.
