The Bucks County Intermediate Unit in Doylestown recently held its annual EmployAbility Expo to give students with special needs extra practice and support to help them find meaningful employment.

This year, 85 students registered to participate with Bucks IU Transition Programs including W.O.W. We’re Outstanding Workers, Everitt, College Connections, Project SEARCH, representing a significant portion of the overall attendees. The event also included participants from nine Bucks County School Districts and one Career Technical Center.

The EmployAbility Expo offers each student the opportunity to go through a mock interview with three different volunteer interviewers from various businesses throughout the community.

To prepare for their roles, the interviewers attend a presentation about the event including details on how they can best support these students as they ask them questions, offer support, and communicate suggestions.

Organizers said several interviewers have reached out to the Bucks IU and school district staff regarding offers of potential employment to several student participants.
