This year, 21 Central Bucks students were named finalists in the National Merit Scholarship Program. Three of those students went on to win scholarships in previous rounds of awards.

More than 7,000 high school students from around the country won a scholarship in this year’s program.

To decide who wins a scholarship, the program reviews students’ academic records, including difficulty of subjects studied and grades earned. Judges also review scores on standardized tests like the preliminary SATs, contributions and leadership in school and community activities, an essay written by the student and the recommendation of a high school teacher or official.
