DOYLESTOWN, PA—The Doylestown at Dusk car show returns to the borough this weekend, bringing one of the biggest—and most unique—car shows in the area to the town’s streets.
The free show is expected to bring about 500 vehicles to the streets of Doylestown. It will run from 5:00 to 10:00 p.m.
Cars will be lined up on East State Street and West Court Street, starting on Main Street and going until the two roads meet in front of Paganini’s Ristorante. From there, the show will continue down West State Street and stop at the intersection of West Street by Carousel Flowers. Cars will also be parked on streets like Franklin, Hamilton and Clinton streets where they intersect State and Court streets.
In addition to being stacked up on borough streets, cars in the show will also occupy the parking area behind the Starbucks, the parking lot on Hamilton Avenue, and the lot next to the Wells Fargo Bank on West Court Street. (More information is on the event’s website.)
Last year’s show shattered previous records with 535 cars. That was a big jump over the 400 or so cars on display in 2022.
Organizers attributed the huge growth to the uniqueness of the Doylestown show. While many car shows are held in fairgrounds on large fields, Doylestown’s show is held in the middle of the business district.
Having the town as a backdrop for the show and having so many restaurants and businesses host the cars on their doorsteps, organizers say, is a big draw for people bringing cars and people attending the show.
The Doylestown show is also known for the eclectic way it displays cars. While many other shows group cars by type (muscle cars from the 1960s and 1970s, for example, in one section) or by year (brass cars from the 1910s, for example), that’s not the case in Doylestown. Vehicles are parked on borough streets, often at an angle, and cars of all types and vintage are mixed together.
The idea is to have people coming to the show discover a variety of cars on every street. The mixed placement gives people coming to the show a reason to wander around, since they’re never sure what type of car they’ll find around the next corner.
Previous shows have featured everything from American muscle cars to Model T’s to Ferraris and pick-up trucks. Some newer cars that have been heavily modified are also entered into the show.
The show will feature live music, and many businesses in the borough will stay open late. That means there will be plenty of options for food and drink.
Proceeds from the show, which is run by the Rotary Club of Doylestown, go to community organizations.
Toward the end of the show, at about 9 p.m., the show’s organizers will hand out awards. Last year’s event had more than 10 awards in categories like “Trick Truck,” “Horrendous Horsepower” and “Ladies Choice.”
Parking for the show will be available at CB West High School or the County Garage by the new courthouse. Street parking outside of the show zone will be available, but expect it to be limited.
