DOYLESTOWN, PA—An intense summer storm rolled through Doylestown on Tuesday night, bringing a temporary drop in the area’s searing temperatures and causing limited damage in the process.

Shortly after the temperature reached 100 (that was the actual temperature, not the “feel-like” number) late on Tuesday afternoon, heavy rain and gusty wind moved from through the Central Bucks area. As the storm raced in from the southwest to the northeast, the temperature steadily dropped, bottoming out in the low 70s during the overnight hours.

Trees and branches came crashing down, causing minor damage around the Central Bucks area. By Wednesday morning, a handful of area roads were still barricaded off and waiting for trees to be removed.

In Doylestown Borough, trees or large tree branches fell at East Street and Davis Street, McLaughlin Drive at North Chubb Drive and Maple Avenue near Cottage Street. As crews began to arrive on the scene to clear the debris in the early-morning hours of Wednesday, joggers and people walking their dogs stopped to look at the damage.

And in Buckingham Township, Holicong Road near CB East High School was closed indefinitely because of downed wires and utility poles.

At several of the scenes, the whirring sound of generators could be heard while trees and branches rested on power and telecommunication lines.
