DOYLESTOWN, PA—The Bucks County Opportunity Council is kicking off its annual back-to-school drive and looking for people to sponsor a student.

The organization, which aims to reduce poverty, needs individuals who can donate gift cards of at least $100 to help students purchase backpacks and other school supplies. Donations of school supplies will also be accepted.

Donations can be dropped off at the organization’s four offices in Bristol, Doylestown, Quakertown or Warminster (Serving Bucks Together) between 8:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. The deadline for donations is Friday, Aug. 16, 2024.

“If you have been shopping, you have already seen the school supplies lining the aisles,” Danielle Bush, the group’s Volunteer and Community Connections Manager, said in a statement. “For our families, who are struggling to become self-sufficient, this is an extremely difficult time filled with high anxiety and stress because they simply are unable to afford the supplies their children need.”

The drive, which is in its 24th year, provided school supplies for 160 students in 2023. For more information or to sign up, visit https://interland3.donorperfect.net/weblink/weblink.aspx?name=E12233&id=121 . You can also call Bush at 215-345-8175, ext. 209, or e-mail her at dbush@bcoc.org.

The Bucks County Opportunity Council focuses on five areas to reduce poverty: housing, food, weatherization, income tax preparation and economic self-sufficiency. More information about the group is on its website.
