Nearly a year after Matthew Perry died from ketamine overdose, Danny Bonaduce recalls how the late actor helped him during his struggles with mental health issues and addiction, even going out of his way to drive him to court and psychiatrist appointments.

After a fairly impressive career marked by controversy, run-ins with the law, and health issues like hydrocephalus, Danny retired to his home in Palm Springs, California, last year, where he now lives with his third wife, Amy Railsback.

Danny is mostly known for playing Danny Partridge in The Partridge Family back in the ‘70s, with several movie and TV show appearances afterward. He even dabbled into music while playing Danny, and became a radio personality in the ‘80s which he sustained until last December due to an illness.

His career was greatly affected by his vices, and while at rehab, Perry committed to taking him for appointments thrice a week, hastening his return to a fairly normal life again. He was arrested on a few occasions, for attempting to buy cocaine and physical assault against a transgender sex worker.

Aside from Danny, more celebrities have come forward to recount the moments in their lives when Perry was memorably kind to them. Kelly Osbourne credits the late actor for making her first time in rehab at 19 easier. The 39-year-old was struggling with withdrawal and planning to run away when Perry helped her.

Having experienced drug addiction himself, Perry gave Kelly one of his rehab chips, which are like rewards for hitting milestones, and told her to apply the three-minute rule. “If you can get through three minutes, you can through anything,” he had said. Perry’s co-stars have also commended his humorous spirit and how much of a present friend he was despite his personal troubles.
