79-year-old Rod Stewart canceled his Vegas performance mere hours before he was due to appear on stage on Wednesday. That night’s concert would have been his 200th residency celebration. However, Stewart had to bow out for the evening due to strep throat.

Stewart has been performing at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace for 13 years as of 2024. Despite putting the grand finale on pause indefinitely, Stewart did extend his residency into 2025 and already has dates starting in spring for the latest bout of concerts.

Hours before he was to take the stage in Vegas as part of Rod Stewart: The Hits, Stewart shared an announcement on Instagram canceling the upcoming performance on Wednesday. “I’m desperately sorry to miss this 200th show celebration,” he announced. He further shared, “Most people can work with strep throat but obviously not me. I’m absolutely gutted. I’ve been looking forward to this concert for so long. My deepest regrets for any inconvenience this has caused.”

Indeed, just before this cancelation, Stewart shared plans he was already well into making for 2025. “Vegas, I’m having too much fun for this to end so we are coming back for an encore!” he revealed in a post from earlier this week. “Don’t miss The Encore Shows Las Vegas Residency at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace March 12-22 & May 29-June 8! Tickets on sale Monday at 10amPT!”

Perhaps the most enthusiastic of them all

Stewart has made sure to show his own abundant passion for his Vegas residency and his long-running history with performing in Sin City. Stewart is ready to pour all of his enthusiasm into the next decade and a half, as he explained to The Sun, since he plans on making the most of his “final 15 years.”

“I’m aware my days are numbered but I’ve got no fear,” said Stewart, who plans on keeping his days as busy as possible—especially with partying—into his 90s.

We have all got to pass on at some point, so we are all in the same basket,” Stewart continued. “I am going to be enjoying myself for these last few years as much as I can. I say few — probably another 15. I can do that easy mate, easy.”

Stewart is aware there will be restrictions, adding, “I can’t stay up all night, get drunk and go mad and still have a voice just like that.” He’s got a plan for that too, he assured, adding, “Nowadays I have to protect my voice before and after every show. The older you get, the more you have to do that. Water has a hell of a lot to do with it. But no, you think I just have water on my rider? You’re talking to Rod Stewart here, mate. We go mad after every show. There are 13 of us, six women, really great musicians and I make them drink. We absolutely love it.”
