Reese Witherspoon Poses In Summery Sunset Snaps With Son Deacon Phillippe

Reese Witherspoon and her son Deacon Phillippe are making sure to soak up the sun as summer draws to a close. The 48-year-old actress recently took to social media to share a joyful summer selfie featuring Witherspoon alongside her 20-year-old son.

Together with fellow actor Ryan Phillippe, Witherspoon has two children: Deacon, as well as daughter Ava Elizabeth Phillippe, who will turn 25 this fall. She also shares son Tennessee James with talent agent Jim Toth. After Witherspoon and Phillippe split around 2006, they shared joint custody of the kids. Here’s the latest on the mother-son duo.

Over the weekend, Witherspoon shared a photo of herself standing beside Deacon. Both of them are seen beaming from ear to ear against a scenic beach backdrop. They appear illuminated by the warm glow of a fire, the color contrast all the more stark thanks to the apparently setting sun off-screen, giving nearly everything a golden tinge.

“Summer nights with this guy are the best,” Witherspoon captioned the post, while also tagging Deacon’s Instagram page.

Among Witherspoon’s over 30 million Instagram followers, many were delighted by the resemblance between parent and child. “Wow he’s got his mom’s looks,” one fan marveled. Another agreed and added, “Everyone always gets it wrong. You and he look alike. Ava and Ryan look alike. Twins of both.”

Yet another praised, “It’s the best when your children become adults and you truly enjoy just hanging out with them. That means you did good!!”

Catching up with Deacon

While his parents, who split when Deacon was just three years old, are well-established actors, Deacon has preferred to pursue a music career. He studies at New York University and has already been hard at work making his dreams come true. In fact, last spring, his family came over to support him with a release party for Deacon’s debut album, New Earth.

Deacon was moved by the support his work received. “All I can say is that it came from pure love, for what I do and for the people that listen,” he said in an Instagram post celebrating the career-defining album. “This is a story of my life, our lives, and of love and life in general; it carries thoughts and emotions that I’ve accumulated, felt, observed, bottled up, and dealt with through the last 19 years of my life. This project was created in my dorm, made by three college kids with big dreams and bigger hearts.”

Deacon has channeled Witherspoon and Phillippe with some acting, which has dad Ryan feeling “so proud.” Most famously, he appeared in season three of Netflix’s Never Have I Ever. However, music remains his first and most unshakeable love.
