Pierce Brosnan Celebrates 23 Years Of Marriage: “We Go Way Back”

Time flies when you live in marital bliss, but for Pierce Brosnan, he’s still feeling his long history with his beloved wife, Keely Shaye Smith. This year, the two celebrate 23 years of marriage, and the former James Bond is feeling especially appreciative of the decades they’ve gotten to spend getting to know one another better and better.

Brosnan had previously been married to Australian actress Cassandra Harris. The two wed in 1980 and stayed together until Harris tragically died at 43 from ovarian cancer in 1991. Brosnan met Keely, a journalist, in 1994, while they were both in Mexico. For seven years, they established the foundations to what would become an enduring marriage celebrating yet another loving anniversary this summer.

On August 5, Brosnan took to social media to celebrate two decades of marriage to Keely. “Happy 23rd anniversary my darling Keely,” he captioned the post, “my beautiful brown eyed girl, my north, my south, my east and west. All my love, should I fall behind wait for me.”

His affectionate words are accompanied by pictures bursting with tender affection visible in the looks shared between the two. It acts as a visual timeline of their relationship, mixing older moments from the early days of their courtship, to candid yet romantic shots from more recent years, proving beyond any doubt that while some things change, love hasn’t.

Love is a two-way street

Keely also shared a celebratory post of her own on Instagram. She posted a photo from their wedding, featuring Brosnan looking especially dapper, while Keely appeared radiant in a lacy white dress. “August 4th, 2001, Ashford Castle, County Mayo, Ireland,” Keely recounted in the captions, before quoting, “You are the finest, loveliest, tenderest person I have ever known.”

She continued, “Happy Anniversary my love @piercebrosnanofficial Here’s to the next 23 years together. May they continue to be creative, adventurous, loving, inspiring, and joyful. Time flies on love’s wings.”

Their wedding anniversary is certainly a huge occasion for Brosnan and Keely, but Keely has another date she treasures with as much fondness: the day they met, which was spent at a party where she was to interview Ted Danson but the actor was pulled away.

“4-8-94 was my lucky day,” Keely shared with her social media followers. “How could I have known as I walked around the corner and into your life that my destiny was about to change forever? Thanking my lucky stars that I had the courage to introduce myself to you and forever grateful for the connection and family we share 3 decades later.” That post was made in celebration of their first meeting, and so she also captioned it, “Happy 30th Anniversary! @piercebrosnanofficial. Time flies on loves wings.”
