German open water swimmer Beck sick after competition in River Seine

German open water swimmer Leonie Beck has vomited nine times and has diarrhoea after racing in the Olympic 10 kilometre race in the River Seine.

The European champion finished ninth in Thursday's race in the Paris river, which was used for the open water/marathon swimming and the triathlons despite repeatedly failing pollution and faeces tests either side of competitions.

The 27-year-old listed her symptoms on Instagram on Saturday. There was no confirmation that her illness was linked to her swim through the river.

Media reports in Belgium said one of their swimmers also fell ill after swimming in the Seine.

Beck said after Thursday's race: "I hope we don't get anything from it."
