Andrey Rublev withstood an extended rain break to dismiss Italian Matteo Arnaldi 6-4, 6-2 and charge into the final of the Canadian Open in Montreal.

Rain delayed play by almost two hours at 6-4, 1-1. Once the players returned to the court, Rublev won five of the final six games of the match.

"The wait has been worth it. I'm happy to be in my first Canadian final," Rublev said after the match.

In the other semi-final, Alexei Popyrin ended Sebastian Korda's eight-match winning streak to claim his spot in the final with a 7-6 (7-0), 6-3 win.

"It means the world ... it's an amazing achievement for myself to be honest, and sometimes you have to pat yourself on the back," said Popyrin.

"It was a topsy-turvy first set with some breaks here and there. I had some points at 5-4 but played some sloppy points and didn't convert. I just stayed mentally strong and I knew exactly what I was going to do on my next break point if I got an opportunity."

Meanwhile, Amanda Anisimova advanced to her first WTA 1000 final after beating Emma Navarro 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 in Toronto.

"This is a huge accomplishment for me, and something I've been working really hard towards," Anisimova said.

"I'm just super happy, honestly, with my week here, and I'm pretty surprised with how well I've been able to do so far. I'm still hungry for more."

Anisimiova will face defending champion Jessica Pegula after she claimed a 6-4, 6-3 win over Diana Shnaider.

"Getting a chance to defend my title is something that doesn't always happen, so I'm excited that I get to put myself in a good spot tomorrow to do so," Pegula said.

"I think it's cool to have my name with a lot of other really big names in history that have either played well here or been able to defend the title as well, so it's super special."
