Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany is certain that his players are not thinkin about the shocking German Cup exit in 2021 after a defeat to Holstein Kiel as the clubs meet again in the Bundesliga on Saturday.

"It was a Cup game in the winter, in difficult conditions. However, it was a long time ago and now it's about Kiel in the Bundesliga. I'm sure it's not on the minds of our players that much anymore," Kompany said in a news conference on Friday.

Bayern entered the 2020-21 Cup season as the reigning champions, but conceded an equalizer in stoppage time and were defeated by then second division side Kiel 6-5 on penalties in the second round.

Kompany said that Bayern prepared for the game at Kiel "with a lot of respect for the opponents," who are playing their maiden Bundesliga season.

Bayern won the first two games of the season and this is their first match following the international break.

While his players were away, Kompany said that it was "important for me to look back at what we've done well and done badly, and think about how to approach the next weeks."

Winger Leroy Sané is fit after struggling with groin issues throughout the past season and undergoing an operation following Euro 2024 and could be available to play.
