Neuer happy to be just a fan of the Germany team after retirement

Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer is happy to be just a fan of the Germany national team after his retirement from international duty.

"It was very nice as a fan. I didn't have to switch off because I was mourning it. I'm happy for our team when we play well and are successful," he told broadcasters Sky about how he followed the matches against Hungary and the Netherlands in the Nations League earlier this month.

"I'm a fan of the team and it was nice to watch the games," he said.

Neuer retired following the Euro 2024 tournament on home soil and after 124 games for the national team. But he would like to pay a visit to the team soon, if possible at the Nations League game against the Netherlands in Munich on October 14.

"I look forward to seeing all the familiar faces," he said.

Neuer was replaced by Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen, whom he wished "all the very best."
