Bayern Munich board member for sport Max Eberl said that German football should be grateful to have a player like Jamal Musiala after the midfielder was criticized by TV pundit and former midfielder Dietmar Hamann.

"We should be grateful to have such a player in the Bundesliga, that also plays for the Germany national team," Eberl said in the Doppelpass TV show on Sunday.

"I don't think there are two opinions. Jamal speaks for himself, his quality speaks for itself," he added.

Hamann said in his column for broadcasters Sky on Wednesday that Musiala is a "individualistic," "solo performer" that doesn't make players around him better.

He added that if Bayern could swap Musiala for Bayer Leverkusen's Florian Wirtz they should do it as soon as possible.

Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund had already said that Hamann's statements were "absurd and far-fetched."

Musiala has a contract with Bayern until June 2026 and according to club bosses they are already holding extension talks.

"We've been talking to each other for months. We'll sit down, we'll talk. We'll do it in peace," Eberl said.
