    Ursula von der Leyen's proposed new European Commission team

    Ursula von der Leyen on Tuesday unveiled her proposed line-up for the new European Commission, which she wants to lead from November 1.

    Below is a list of the 27 commissioners - one from each of the European Union's member states - and the portfolios they have been assigned to.

    The nominations are subject to the approval of the European Parliament.

    The commission is the European Union's executive, with a staff of around 32,000. It is responsible for proposing new legislation and ensuring EU rules are adhered to.
