The number of deaths from the flooding in the Czech Republic has risen to four, police said on Wednesday.

The body of a 70-year-old woman, who had been missing for days, was discovered in the community of Kobylá nad Vidnavkou.

The location is in the Jeseník district in the north-east of the country.

The region in the Altvater Mountains near the border with Poland was particularly hard hit by the storms. At least seven people are still considered missing in the Czech Republic.

Where the floodwaters have receded, the major clean-up is beginning.

Drinking water and power generators are being distributed. The Defence Ministry said more than 300 soldiers are deployed to support the civilian authorities, including building replacement bridges.

The mayor of Ostrava, Jan Dohnal, said he believes the removal of the damage could take years. In the third-largest city in the Czech Republic the main train station, a district heating plant and the sewage treatment plant were flooded.
