Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Wednesday condemned the West and the coordinated explosions of hundreds of portable radio receivers in Lebanon as a "disgrace."

Pezeshkian levelled serious accusations at Israel's ally, the United States, in particular.

After a Cabinet meeting, according to a statement issued by his office, he stated that the incident was "proof of the decline" where "tools originally created for humanity’s prosperity and comfort are now being used for terror and destruction."

The event had shown "that although the Western countries and the Americans publicly claim that they are striving for a ceasefire, in reality they fully support the crimes ... of the [Israeli] regime."

About 2,800 people were injured and at least 12 killed in the near-simultaneous blast of pagers frequently used by the militant group Hezbollah across Lebanon on Tuesday.

Although Israel's army and intelligence services have not claimed responsibility for the explosions, Hezbollah and Iran have accused them of orchestrating the attacks.

Since the 1979 Islamic Revolution, the US and Israel have been regarded as Tehran's primary adversaries.

The region has faced a constant risk of escalation since the outbreak of the war in the Gaza Strip between Israel and the Palestinian militant group Hamas.

Both Hamas and Hezbollah are groups hostile to Israel and are backed by Iran.
