Elon Musk's social media platform X has complied with the demands of Brazil's Supreme Court and asked that a ban on the service be lifted, local media reported on Thursday, potentially ending a weeks-long stand-off.

Lawyers for the company said they provided all the documentation on the appointment of attorney Rachel Villa Nova Conceição as legal representative of X in Brazil to Judge Alexandre de Moraes, broadcaster TV Globo reported.

This means that the conditions set by the top court judge have been met. X had, as requested, earlier appointed Conceição as legal representative and blocked the profiles of several users under investigation.

In addition, a fine of 18.35 million reais ($3.37 million) was collected from the bank accounts of Musk's companies X and Starlink.

De Moraes had ordered X be taken offline in the major market at the end of August, after the platform let a court-imposed deadline to appoint a legal representative pass. The company also refused to block the accounts of right-wing activists who spread conspiracy theories and misinformation.

Musk, a prominent supporter of former US president Donald Trump in the US election campaign, portrays himself as a defender of free speech. He accused de Moraes of attacking freedom of expression and called him an "evil dictator."
