Alonso: No Oktoberfest visit if Leverkusen win at Bayern

Bayer Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso has ruled out allowing his team to go to Oktoberfest if they win Saturday's Bundesliga blockbuster at Bayern Munich.

The Bavarian beer festival is in full flow in Munich and Bayern players were allowed to go there and drink alcohol after last weekend's 5-0 win at Werder Bremen.

But Alonso, who often attended Oktoberfest when a Bayern player, told a news conference on Friday: "What do you think? We play AC Milan on Tuesday, we have no time for that. We train on Sunday morning in Leverkusen. We have a big week ahead of us."

Leverkusen drew in Munich last term and won the reverse fixture at home as they sealed their maiden Bundesliga title and went unbeaten. It ended a run of 11 straight titles for Bayern, who top the table with 12 points from 12 ahead of second-placed Leverkusen (9).

"It is a big game, maybe the hardest in the season so far. We want to be competitive and show a complete performance," Alonso added.

"We have a clear idea of how we want to play. We will give it our all.

The Spaniard was a star midfielder for Bayern during his playing career and knows how difficult it is to win at the Allianz Arena.

"In the Allianz Arena you need to bring your best performance," he said, nothing that his defence has not been as stable as last season.

Leverkusen playmaker Florian Wirtz have been heavily linked in the media with a move to Bayern for next term and defender Jonathan Tah came close to joining the Bavarians in the close season.

But Alonso said his side, who have no new injury worries, are completely focused on the job at hand.

"We need to play at our highest level, with and without the ball for 90 minutes. Bayern will go full throttle and we have to be ready for that," he said.
