Serhou Guirassy scored twice to help Borussia Dortmund battle back from 2-0 down and beat winless Bochum 4-2 at home on Friday, sparing more Bundesliga blushes for coach Nuri Şahin.

"We have to be at it from the very first minute, we have to learn that, but the lads showed character," Dortmund captain Emre Can told DAZN.

"We have to improve, 100%, there are areas where we have to get better and we will do. It is a good start for Guirassy but even he can also play better."

Dortmund were thumped 5-1 at VfB Stuttgart last weekend having started the season well and it looked like the coach would be under real pressure after a woeful first 40 minutes.

Bochum, who picked up their first point of the season in last weekend's 2-2 draw with promoted Holstein Kiel, took a shock lead when a simple one-two released Matúš Bero and his fierce left-foot shot flew in at Gregor Kobel's near post.

It got far worse for Kobel on 21 minutes when he was pressured by Myron Boadu after a back pass and kicked the ball straight to Dani de Wit, who could not miss.

The goalkeeper's appeal for a foul was waved away in the pouring Dortmund rain and soon after, Boadu missed a glorious chance to make it three for a second-bottom Bochum side who only just avoided relegation last term.

Big close-season signing Guirassy cut the deficit with a header just before the break after Julian Brandt had been given to much time to cross.

    Squirmed over the line

Guinea striker Guirassy had opened his Bundesliga account last weekend in the painful defeat at his former club Stuttgart, whom he fired to second in the German top flight last term.

Dortmund, who host Celtic in the Champions League on Tuesday having won their opener at Club Brugge, levelled on the hour after Guirassy was felled in the box and Can converted the penalty.

The hosts found a winner on 75 minutes when Guirassy latched on to Karim Adeyemi's perfectly-weighted pass.

Substitute Felix Nmecha settled matters when keeper Patrick Drewes allowed his effort to squirm over the line.

Şahin, 36, took over after Edin Terzic left following the Champions League final defeat by Real Madrid in June.

The former Turkey and Dortmund midfielder, who won the Bundesliga as a player in 2011, has only ever coached Antalyaspor in Turkey and was brought in as Terzic's assistant during last term's mid-season break.

Fans have criticized his eclectic tactics so far but the comeback will buy him time as Dortmund moved second on 10 points from five games.

The big match of the Bundesliga weekend is on Saturday when unbeaten leaders Bayern Munich host third-placed champions Bayer Leverkusen in an early season blockbuster.
