Bayern Munich dropped their first points of the season when they were held 1-1 by champions Bayer Leverkusen in a Bundesliga top match on Saturday.

Robert Andrich volleyed Leverkusen 1-0 up against the flow of play in the 31st minute after a corner kick resulting from a poor Aleksandar Pavlovic backpass.

But Bayern youngster Pavlovic made amends eight minutes later when he fired a spectacular equalizer into the top corner.

Bayern's Serge Gnabry hit the post and crossbar shortly after the restart.

Bundesliga top scorer Harry Kane had no shot on goal and young German stars Jamal Musiala of Bayern and Florian Wirtz were not fully dominant while Leverkusen defended better than in the previous games where they had conceded nine goals.

    Xhaka: Defence the key

"We could see that we can perform at this level. You have to be firm in defence after the previous games. We can do more with the ball but the 1-1 is fine and important for us," Leverkusen's Granit Xhaka told Sky TV.

Bayer goalkeeper Manuel Neuer said: "We would have deserved more. We were clearly the better team and had more scoring opportunities."

Bayern remain top with 13 points from five games, two ahead of RB Leipzig and three clear of Leverkusen and Borussia Dortmund.

Elsewhere, St Pauli Hamburg claimed their first Bundesliga win in 13 years, 3-0 at Freiburg; 10-man VfB Stuttgart salvaged a last-gasp 2-2 draw at Wolfsburg; Leipzig trounced Augsburg 4-0, Heidenheim won 2-0 at Mainz; and Borussia Mönnchengladbach beat Union Berlin 1-0.

On Friday, Dortmund rallied from two goals down to beat Bochum 4-2. The Sunday games are Holstein Kiel v Eintracht Frankfurt and Hoffenheim v Werder Bremen. Frankfurt will rise to second if they win in Kiel.

    Bayern dominate, Leverkusen score

Bayern dominated the big showdown, with Raphael Guerreiro aiming inches right and a Michael Olise free-kick sailing just over.

But it was the visitors who drew first blood after a mis-cued pass from Pavlovic to Neuer, back from a thigh muscle injury, resulted in a corner kick.

Alejandro Grimaldo's delivery was headed away to Xhaka, who laid the ball back to Germany midfielder Andrich to volley through a crowded penalty area into the bottom left corner.

Bayern hit back and are unlucky

Bayern fought back and Pavlovic redeemed himself, chesting down a clearance some 25m from goal and firing into the top right corner. Goalkeeper Lukas Hradecky got his fingertips on the ball but could not keep it out.

The hosts had a glorious opportunity to go 2-1 up shortly after the restart. Kane's long ball found Gnabry at the far left post, he shot against the right post, the ball came back to him and he hit the crossbar on the second attempt from a tight angle.

    First win for St Pauli

Promoted St Pauli got a first season victory and first in the top flight since beating crosstown rivals SV Hamburg in February 2011 from Elias Saad's brace and Oladapo Afolaya in Freiburg. St Pauli keeper Nikola Vasilj saved a penalty from Vincenzo Grifo with the score 1-0.

‘We are very, very happy and delighted with the three points. After receiving praise after the first few games and getting nothing out of it, we were positioned well today and struck at the right time," St Pauli coach Alexander Blessin said.

    Undav rescues 10-man Stuttgart

Germany striker Deniz Undav salvaged the 2-2 for last season's runners-up Stuttgart in the seventh minute of stoppage time in a turbulent match in Wolfsburg.

Wolfsburg led twice from Jonas Wind and Mohamed Amourap. Enzo Millot got the first equalizer for last season's runners up on the rebound of his penalty saved by Kamil Grabara. Stuttgart's Atakan Karazor had to go midway through the second half after a second booking. Amoura was shown a straight red in the 73rd which was rescinded upon review.

    Leipzig score and win again

Coming off 0-0 draws against Union Berlin and St Pauli, Leipzig were 2-0 up within 15 minutes from Benjamin Sesko's brace. Lois Openda and Xavi Simons got the others and Leipzig keeper Peter Gulacsi saved a Jeffrey Gouweleeuw penalty.

"We were far from satisfied with the two draws. It was a good game today but the penalty also showed how tight things are at this level," Leipzig coach Marco Rose said after a club record 16th Bundesliga match without defeat.
