Reports: Vuskovic to appeal CAS doping ban at Swiss Federal Tribunal

Croatian footballer Mario Vuskovic has lodged an appeal against a four-year doping ban at the Swiss Federal Tribunal, German media said on Thursday.

The Hamburger Abendblatt and Bild papers reported that Vuskovic's lawyers had submitted the relevant documents to the court.

Vuskovic had an original two-year ban imposed by the German Football Federation (DFB) doubled to four years by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) which in August upheld appeals from the German anti-dopinng agency NADA and the global body WADA.

Rulings by Switzerland-based CAS can only be appealed at the Federal Tribunal which however only considers procedural matters. This makes a successful case unlikely for Vuskovic.

Vuskovic, 22, tested positive for the banned blood booster EPO in 2022 while playing for German second division club SV Hamburg.

He protested his innocence throughout the case and had sought a nullification of the ban at the CAS.

Vuskovic's contract has been terminated by mutual consent after the CAS ruling but he will get a new one when the suspension expires in September 2026.
