The United Nations on Wednesday warned that Lebanon's humanitarian crisis is worsening amid the Israeli offensive.

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said conditions are "deteriorating at an alarming rate."

"The relentless bombardment is amplifying the suffering of vulnerable populations," the organization added.

More than 30 airstrikes hit the capital Beirut on Sunday alone, the OCHA said, "frightening residents and forcing additional displacement from densely populated areas."

In the year since the October 7 attacks on Israel, more than 600,000 people have been internally displaced in Lebanon according to UN figures, with 80% of 978 collective shelters already at capacity.

Three-quarters of the shelters are converted school buildings.

The beginning of the school year has already been postponed to November amid the fighting.

Some 350,000 children have been displaced during the conflict in Lebanon, figures from UNICEF suggest.
