Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant issued a stern warning to Iran on Wednesday, threatening a "deadly" counterstrike in a post on the social media platform X.

"Those who try to harm the State of Israel will pay a price," Gallant wrote. "Our attack in Iran will be deadly, precise and surprising."

Last week, the government in Tehran launched about 180 ballistic missiles at Israel.

Iran backs a network of militias and political groups that includes Hezbollah in Lebanon, the Palestinian Hamas group and the Houthis in Yemen, all of which have launched attacks against Israel.

"The latest Iranian attacks on Israel were aggressive, but they failed because they were not precise," Gallant said, according to his office during the visit.
