The website of South Korea's leading bookseller briefly crashed after writer Han Kang won the Nobel Prize in Literature on Thursday.

An employee of the Kyobo Book Centre, a chain store, in Seoul said that complaints were received about people being unable to access the website, the Yonhap news agency reported.

The retailer also does not have enough copies of Han's works in stock, as they did not anticipate her prize win, the employee added.

Han, 53, received this year's Nobel Prize in Literature for her "intense poetic prose that confronts historical traumas and exposes the fragility of human life," the Swedish Academy in Stockholm said.

This is the first time the Nobel Prize in Literature has been awarded to a writer from South Korea.
