US President Joe Biden said he was "absolutely" asking Israel to stop firing at UN peacekeepers in southern Lebanon, after incidents in which four troops were injured.

When asked by a reporter at the White House on Friday whether he would tell Israel to stop such acts, Biden responded: "Absolutely, positively."

The UN peacekeeping mission in Lebanon said two peacekeepers were injured in Israeli fire on Thursday and another two on Friday.

The Israel military has acknowledged the incidents but said its troops were going after Hezbollah targets near the UN observation posts.
