World Cup 2014 winners Thomas Müller, Manuel Neuer and the not present Toni Kroos as well as former captain Ilkay Gündogan were officially bid farewell from the German national team on Monday.

The players who earned a collective 451 caps and ended their international career after Euro 2024 were honoured ahead of Germany's Nations League match against the Netherlands.

The 70,000 fans cheered the players and there were huge portraits of the four "legends" with the words "Thaks for everything, lads."

Müller had made his national team debut in 2009, Neuer and Kroos shortly before the 2010 World Cup, and Gündogan in 2011. While Kroos has ended his career the other three are still playing at club level.

"It was a great story. Time was really flying," Müller told broadcasters ZDF, adding that "the next generation is knocking at the door."

Several German backroom staff members were also bid farewell ahead of the kick-off.
