Bayern Munich supervisory board member Karl-Heinz Rummenigge expects next summer's revamped Club World Cup to be very popular among fans.

"This tournament, which will be held in this format for the first time next year, will fill people with enthusiasm. I'm convinced it will be a good tournament. And it will only take place every four years, you must not forget that," the former Bayern CEO told the Kicker sports magazine.

The revamped FIFA tournament will have 32 teams and will take place in the United States, which for Rummenigge is a test for the 2026 World Cup in the US, Canada and Mexico.

The Club World Cup, which takes place from June 15 to July 13, has recently come under increasing criticism. Players are warning of an overload, while there could be potential issues due to contracts that expire on June 30 - during the tournament - and no sponsors or media partners have been announced so far.
